With more than $3.5 million raised for nursing students over the past two years, the College of Nursing praised the generosity of its donors at a celebration event held Feb. 20.
The event commemorated the successful completion of the College’s Take Nursing Higher scholarship campaign, while also honoring the school's development board members and alumni for their incredible service and generosity.
MUSC College of Nursing board member and major scholarship supporter, Beverly Seinsheimer, emceed the event and provided opening remarks. She was also joined at the mic by MUSC Provost Lisa Saladin, Darshonda Guess, a TNH scholarship recipient, and Dean Linda Weglicki.
Ms. Guess, a 2018 BSN graduate from Vance, S.C., spoke about how the Take Nursing Higher scholarship allowed her as a minority student to continue her education and work toward accomplishing her dream of becoming a nurse. Ms. Guess, along with many other students in the College received support from donors, helping alleviate financial worries of paying for school so that they could focus on their goals and education. More than 92 percent of our students received financial aid this semester.
Dean Weglicki also praised former Dean Gail Stuart on the success on the multi-million dollar campaign for exceeding its original targeted goal of $1 million by 250 percent. Dr. Stuart was in attendance as the creator of the Thomas J. Wiscarz Scholarship and as the architect of the Take Nursing Higher campaign.
Dean Weglicki concluded her remarks by thanking everyone for the incredible impact they had made in the lives of MUSC nursing students and the nursing discipline. "Your commitment and investment in the future of nursing and health care is a testament to each of you," Dean Weglicki said. "Please believe me when I say that we could not and cannot do it without you!"
