As we wind down the spring semester and begin planning and implementing what our college environment will look like under "lighter" COVID protocols and practices this summer and into fall, I would like to share a few proud highlights and accomplishments of the past several months.

  • We successfully planned for and implemented the college's approved on-campus COVID-19 safety mitigation plan that supports on-site student skills and simulation training, as well as faculty and staff remote work. A priority was placed on providing a safe environment that supported our faculty and our students' success and on-time graduation.
  • We held the first live and very well received donor-student scholarship reception at MUSC.
  • We launched the first in the nation post-master's DNP in Palliative Care Across the Lifespan program.
  • We bestowed 88 nursing degrees to December 2020 graduates in a virtual convocation ceremony.
  • We received $1,583,000 in three new Duke Endowment grant awards.
  • We had outstanding exam pass rates! ABSN graduates scored 100% on the NCLEX-RN for Q4 in 2020 and Q1 2021; our recent DNP and MSN graduates scored 100% on the FNP and PMHNP national certification exams.
  • We hosted the COVID-19 Nursing Benefit Concert that generated support for our simulation programs and student scholarships.
  • We submitted 36 external research, practice and other grant proposals since fall 2020.
  • The MUSC Board of Trustees approved our new faculty practice plan to provide new opportunities and growth for faculty practice in the future.
  • And May 13, we hosted two live-streamed and in-person convocation ceremonies for our 128 May 2021 graduates.

These successes mentioned above (and there are many more) are a true tribute to all our faculty, staff and students and the support they all give to the College of Nursing. I'm incredibly grateful, and I hope you all are incredibly proud – what a team!

In service and respectfully,

Linda S. Weglicki, Ph.D., R.N.
