Mental Health Matters

Mental Health Matters is a campaign dedicated to providing patients the best mental health care through groundbreaking research and world-class education, while simultaneously reducing the stigma associated with mental illness. The campaign is a direct response to an increase in America’s growing struggle with a wide range of mental health issues.

60% Go Untreated

Whether it is anxiety, PTSD, depression or serious mental illnesses, one in five adults in the United States will face mental health issues. Of those affected nearly 60 percent will go untreated.

How MUSC is helping

A beacon of hope and light for almost 30 years, the MUSC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and the Institute of Psychiatry are dedicated to treating every patient who walks through our doors with compassion and respect. Mental illness, like any other medical condition, is a challenging battle that we are committed to helping patients overcome.

The MUSC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is consistently ranked among the top 10 National Institutes of Health (NIH) psychiatry departments and we receive more than $40 million in annual research revenues.

Take a Stance, Shine a Light

Our programs could not exist without generous gifts from our donors. Let's take a stance and shine a light on the importance of mental health. Only through private support can we:

  1. Increase access to treatment not currently covered by third-party payers.
  2. Educate more health care providers including residents, fellows, workshops and trainings. That education, in turn, results in more mental health care providers which ultimately means more care for patients.
  3. Expand cutting-edge research by supporting our psychiatry researchers who carry out clinical trials, lead a center on women’s health, a family services research center, a national crime victims center, and a new brain imaging center.

Regardless of which area you select, all gifts support Mental Health Matters. And every gift makes a profoundly meaningful impact on the lives of our patients, faculty, students, and the people they serve.
