The Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Studies program is offered by MUSC’s College of Health Professions. The mission of the Healthcare Studies program is to provide a foundation in healthcare studies and population health, preparing students to become informed and engaged health professionals who can think critically about health-related issues, work as part of a healthcare team, and develop innovative solutions that integrate comprehensive determinants of health.
This degree is ideal for qualified professionals who want to:
- Complete their Bachelor’s degree online while continuing to work,
- Increase their career advancement opportunities by attaining a Bachelor’s degree,
- Apply to a graduate program in the Health Professions upon completion of their Bachelor’s degree.
While it is not required, strong candidates will have an Associate's degree or be certified or licensed healthcare professionals. Examples of these professions include Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapy Assistant, Radiology Technician, Respiratory Care Technician, Cardiovascular Technologist, Surgical Technician, Dental Hygienist, Medical Laboratory Technologist, Radiation Therapy Technologist.
Students who have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours and all general education requirements are eligible to apply to the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Studies Program.
Healthcare Studies courses are conducted online and require participation in on-campus sessions once a semester (August, January, May). On-campus sessions are generally 2-3 days long and provide valuable face-to-face time with your faculty and classmates.
At the Bachelor’s level, possible careers for our graduates include Health Educator, Worksite Wellness Coordinator, Patient Care Advocate, Patient Navigator, Non-profit or Government Health Professional.
Bachelor’s of Science in Healthcare Studies graduates may choose to apply to MUSC’s nationally recognized graduate programs, as well as others throughout the country.

Students will develop an understanding of the determinants of health, develop creative and innovative health interventions, understand the strengths and limitations of health research, and apply ethical and professional standards.
