About MUSC Bioinformatics

The emergence and wide application of genomics technologies, including deep sequencing technologies, have allowed scientists to bridge the gap between gene sequence and immunological function on a scale not possible a few short years ago.

Deep sequencing has reduced the cost per base of DNA sequencing by several orders of magnitude, and has effectively introduced genome sequencing center capability into biomedical research programs. Incorporation of high throughput sequencing (HTS) approaches, data acquisition, storage, analysis and effective mining require computational infrastructure and a highly skilled team of individuals who are experts in both the pertinent methodologies and experimental design considerations in HTS platforms.

These analytical methods, which lie beyond the scope of most individual laboratories, are readily available to MUSC investigators. The goal of this program is to provide state of the art bioinformatics analysis for high throughput genomic analyses to support the research goals of MUSC investigators.
