Research Themes

The central theme of the Center is focused on the continuum of pathological events from cellular injury to inflammation to fibrosis (and malignancy) that lead to diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and liver.

Within the pathophysiologic continuum of our theme exist discrete groups of investigators who are tightly focused in specific disease areas. Since we are committed to make inroads in treatment for human disease, we feel that the intersection of pathophysiology and disease is critical, and that these working groups are particularly well-suited to the DDRC. The Center’s working groups include the following areas:

Gastroenterology Graphic

  1. Liver injury, inflammation and fibrosis

  2. Clinical pancreatic inflammation

  3. Gastrointestinal tract inflammatory disease (including the microbiome)

  4. The gastrointestinal tract malignancy pathway
