Patient Care

The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is South Carolina’s only comprehensive academic health science center. As the largest Department in the MUSC College of Medicine, the Department of Medicine and its nine clinical subspecialty Divisions are key providers of inpatient and outpatient health care to patients in South Carolina and across the United States.

The Department of Medicine maintains faculty physicians and resident staff at Medical University Hospital, Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center, and other hospitals across the state, as well as outpatient facilities at MUSC Rutledge Tower and Ashley River Tower (adjacent to the main MUSC hospital downtown), Mount Pleasant, West Ashley and North Charleston.

The Department’s main clinical goals are to serve the health care needs of the community and beyond by providing the best clinical care possible, and to become the health care provider of choice in South Carolina. We continue to improve clinical effectiveness by analyzing patient and referring physician satisfaction data and by opening new and expanding outreach services throughout South Carolina’s Lowcountry.
