The Charleston Alcohol Research Center (ARC) is a "specialized" Alcohol Research Center supported by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA). The ARC has received funding from NIAAA that will allow research in the Center to continue into 2020.
Since 1995, our Center has enabled basic scientists to work jointly with clinical researchers on alcohol treatment with an emphasis on pharmacological intervention. The recent renewal of funding will support projects focused on changes in the brain that underlie the transition from controlled to uncontrolled drinking.
Through excellence in scientific research, our Center has become a significant regional and national resource in the treatment of alcohol abuse and alcoholism.
