Interleaved TMS/fMRI

MUSC is one of a handful of sites in the world with the ability to do transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) interleaved with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). By using TMS within the MRI to non-invasively induce neural activity in an area of the brain, we can then use fMRI to examine the effects of stimulation of the neural network. TMS/fMRI is useful to examine how a neural circuit may affect a given disorder such as the addiction to alcohol and look at the plasticity of that network.
