MUSC in conjunction with the National Center of Neuromodulation for Rehabilitation offers biannual Level 1, 2, and 3 workshops.
These workshops are designed for clinicians and researchers interested in using brain stimulation techniques to advance care and practice for neurologic disorders – with a strong emphasis on neurorehabilitation. The workshops require an application form and (complimentary) membership in the NM4R community. All accepted registrants will receive complimentary registration and certification at the end of the training opportunity.
This Level 1 workshop will go into greater detail on TMS and operant conditioning. This workshop is appropriate to those with existing expertise in neuromodulation. One half of the workshop emphasizes brain stimulation using TMS and the other half focuses on operant conditioning. This workshop will include intensive hands on experience along with an emphasis on analyzing and interpreting data.
Brain Stimulation Basics and Hands on Training
This workshop will explore the fundamental physics of tDCS and the neurophysiology and neurochemistry potentially effected by tDCS. Participants will gain experience with common tDCS devices, electrode placement skills and montages, and best practices, all with an eye to crucial safety considerations. We will explore potential applications of the technique in stroke rehabilitation, pain management, and in other clinical conditions. Goals include workshop participants gaining a basic understanding of the state of clinical knowledge in tDCS, developing a working knowledge of responsible experiment design, and acquiring essentials skills on the use of various tDCS devices.
