Surgery Research Day

Surgery

Eric R. Frykberg, MD Lecture and Surgery Research Recognition Day

The Department of Surgery holds an annual Surgery Research Recognition Day, designed to showcase and celebrate the exceptional research work in which our resident scholars participate. The goal is to congratulate those residents and post-doctoral scholars who have completed their work as well as to stimulate them to pursue additional endeavors.

In 2016, Research Day was renamed in honor of Dr. Eric Frykberg, an MUSC Surgical alumnus, who built a brilliant and productive career that has made the practice of Surgery safer, better, and smarter.

This year, Surgery Research Recognition Day is on September 20.

Each year, the Department invites a guest judge and lecturer to participate in Surgery Research Day.

Gerard Doherty, MD

The 2019 invited speaker and judge is Gerard M. Doherty, M.D., Moseley Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, Surgeon-in-Chief, Brigham Health & Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Crowley Family Distinguished Chair  in the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Doherty has focused on surgical diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, endocrine pancreas and adrenal glands as well as the surgical management of MEN syndromes. He has devoted substantial effort to medical student and resident education policy.
