Dr. Joy Lauerer and Sarah Gainey trained 55 BSN students on November 17, 2016 on screening and assessment of substance use disorders using the MUSC SBIRT Screening Tool.
In September, Sarah Gainey attended the annual Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) Forum in Montreal, Canada. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a critical component of SBIRT’s evidence-based intervention.
In March, Dr. Joy Lauerer, and Sarah Gainey attended the Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Grantee Annual Conference in Washington, DC.
Dr. Joy Lauerer and Sarah Gainey trained 61 MSN/DNP students at the Advanced Clinical Assessment Learning Intensive on March 03, 2016, and 80 BSN students on February 23, 2016 on screening and assessment of substance use disorders using the MUSC SBIRT Screening Tool.
As part of the three year "Impacting At-Risk Populations Through Multi-modal Training of Nursing and Medical Students in SBIRT" grant, the SBIRT project team offered a "Train the Trainer Workshop" on February 10, 2016 with Joe Hyde, MA to further the goal of instructing all educator/clinical faculty at MUSC. The training was also offered to area organizations that precept MUSC nurses, nurse practitioners and medical students and was attended by 19 nurses, nurse practitoners, social workers, counselors and psychologists. The workshop was well received and the SBIRT project team continues the online education and face to face training intervention with the CON and COM students and faculty.
