MUSC presented the Charleston Hurricanes rugby team with the first ever Diversity and Inclusion Rainbows Award in partnership with the Charleston RiverDogs baseball team.

Jes Cornelius, associate chief information officer and inaugural diversity and inclusion scholar, threw out the first pitch at the Charleston RiverDogs baseball game on August 13, 2019. In 1985, the Charleston Royals baseball team became the Charleston Rainbows, inspired by downtown’s Rainbow Row. This is the fifth year the Charleston RiverDogs (est. 1994) have promoted their Rainbows throwback night by teaming up with MUSC and other local organizations to support Charleston Pride Week (September 7-14, 2019).
