Adverse Weather Plan

If the day brings adverse weather, Commencement Exercises will be held at 9:30 a.m. at The Citadel, McAlister Field House, 171 Moultrie Street, Charleston, SC 29409.

Upon authorization by the MUSC President's office and no later than 6:00 a.m. on Friday, May 18, 2019, notices of the alternate site will be placed online; Deans’ offices and Student Services staff will be notified; MUSC Broadcast messages will be utilized for a campus wide notification and area news media will be asked to make the announcement. Graduates and Guests 

All graduates and guests are responsible for their own transportation to the McAlister Field House. Graduates will need to arrive with your regalia no later than 8:00 a.m. MUSC staff will be on hand to direct you to your line up area. Diplomas will be distributed on site during the ceremony. 

Campus Event Security Screen Policy  - Clear Bag Policy

The Citadel Department of Public Safety plans and implements appropriate safety protocols for all events taking place on campus. This policy’s purpose is to ensure necessary safety and security precautions for screening individuals entering events on campus. In coordination with campus departments, the Department of Public Safety will enforce the following rules and restrictions.

It covers the use of walkthrough metal detectors (including magnetometer machines and hand-held wands), as well as bags and items prohibited from entry into campus events. 

Approved Bags:

a. Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags that do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12" – A logo no larger than 4.5" x 3.4" can be displayed on one side of a permissible clear bag,
b. One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar),
c. Small clutch bags no larger than 4.5" x 6.5" – approximately the size of a hand, with or without a handle or strap,
d. Medically necessary items (after proper inspection), and
e. Diaper Bags (after proper inspection) will be permitted for families with infants and toddlers. Child must be present.

Prohibited bags include, but are not limited to:

a. Purses larger than a clutch bag,
b. Briefcases,
c. Backpacks,
d. Fanny Packs,
e. Cinch/Drawstring Bags,
f. Luggage of any kind,
g. Computer Bags,
h. Binocular Cases,
i. Camera Bags, or
j. Non-approved seat cushions, which include large traditional seat cushions that have pockets, zippers, compartments or covers.

Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:

a. Weapons/Concealed Weapons,
b. Alcoholic Beverages,
c. Containers of any kind, Memo 6-428, Page 4
d. Aerosol and Spray Cans,
e. Illegal Drugs,
f. Masks of any kind,
g. Drones,
h. Mace/Pepper Spray,
i. Animals (except service animals),
j. Laser lights, Strobe Lights and Pointers,
k. Irritants such as artificial noisemakers,
l. Fireworks/Explosives,
m. Inflatables (beach balls, etc.),
n. Coolers, thermoses, cups, bottles, cans, flasks,
o. Food of any kind,
p. Video cameras, tripods, recording devices, detachable camera lenses over 6", selfie sticks,
q. Flags and Flagpoles, unauthorized banners or posters, or
r. Strollers.

Parking Citadel Campus Parking Map  Driving Directions

All parking will be available on in the MUSC Hagood Lot and the Johnson Hagood Stadium parking lot on a first come first serve basis. MUSC shuttles will be running from the MUSC Hagood Lot and the Johnson Hagood Stadium parking lot to the McAlister Field House.

VIP Reserved Parking will be available to all VIP guests, you will need to bring your VIP Pass with you to access the reserved parking on the Citadel campus near the McAlister Field House.

Disabled Guests Reserved Parking will be available to those who received a MUSC Disabled Guest Pass; you will need to bring your pass with you to access the reserved parking on the Citadel campus near the McAlister Field House.

OEM and College Commencement Staff 

Report to work at the McAllister Fieldhouse, skybox by 7:00am.

Candidate Faculty Marshals

All candidate faculty marshals are responsible for their own transportation to the McAlister Field House. Candidate Marshals will need to arrive no later than 8:30am.

Faculty

All faculty are responsible for their own transportation to the McAlister Field House. Faculty will need to arrive no later than 9:00am. 

Golden Graduates

Staff will be present to assist you. Transportation will be provided from your currently designated meeting site to the McAlister Field House following the breakfast reception.

Presidential Party (Board of Trustees, College Deans, Central Administrators, Grand Marshal, Presidential Marshals, Readers)

Breakfast will be served in the MUSC Colcock Hall Board room beginning at 7:30 a.m. Transportation will be provided from MUSC to the McAlister Field House and will leave Colcock Hall at 8:45 a.m.
