CARES Clinic

The CARES Clinic is a student-run clinic that offers free healthcare to adults without health insurance. Our mission is to provide quality healthcare at no cost to the underserved populations of the Charleston area while educating future healthcare professionals through our service to these patients. Volunteering at CARES also offers valuable interprofessional experience, since we have volunteers from College of Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing, and Health Professions. We are open Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights from 6 and 9 PM. Our specialty nights include Spanish, Gynecology, Integrated Med/Psych, and Orthopedics.

Heart Health Fit Kids

The International Student Association aims: To welcome and assist new International students as they arrive on campus. Services include arrival and housing assistance, ESL instruction options, and orientation to assure International students have a rewarding and productive educational program at MUSC. The Multicultural Student Advisory Board (MSAB) provides opportunities for community outreach, social activities, and serves as a platform for discussions on diversity. MASA aims to be a campus-wide platform for students of all ethnicities to exchange experiences, celebrate Asian culture, and learn of health issues specific to the Asian-American community. We hold monthly meetings open to all MUSC students, engaging in topics ranging from the immigrant experience to celebrating Asian holidays with catered ethnic foods. We also offer volunteer opportunities with refugee families in Charleston. Our goal is to facilitate learning between students of all identities and foster interprofessional and interethnic friendships and relationships.

Musicians United for Service in Charleston (MUSiC)

MUSiC is a special interest group composed of students from MUSC whose common goal is to entertain others on campus, in our hospitals, and in the Charleston community by performing live music. We consist of trained and amateur musicians and singers, specializing in a variety of genres and instruments as well as students who are strictly music lovers who wish to provide others with the same joy that we get from playing/listening to music. We serve patients of MUSC hospitals by having small groups of our members volunteering their musical talents to play at arranged gigs. We also would like to extend our presence to other MUSC students and hopefully in to the Charleston area as to help promote MUSCs dedication to the community.

Nutrition in Medicine Interest Group

We live in a time when rates of childhood obesity and diabetes are growing rapidly. These lifestyle-related diseases need to be addressed by future health professionals that understand proper nutrition and diet. Each month we will meet for lunch seminars or activities that will cover varied topics ranging from nutrition, food preparation and culinary medicine, exercise, sleep, special diets, and more. With our focus on food, lunch will of course be provided.

MUSC Service Learners International (SLI) is a student-led organization focused on delivering health care during a week-long service trip to the Central Plateau region of Haiti. The group currently consists of medical and pharmacy students but is open to all colleges. SLI has a continuing mission to promote awareness of healthcare in Haiti and the developing world, while also providing sustainable, quality health care to the people of the Central Plateau.
