Biography
Whitney A. Smith, DNP, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, is an Assistant Professor and Interim Assistant Dean of Graduate Programs at the Medical University of South Carolina College of Nursing. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from the University of South Florida and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from MUSC.
Dr. Smith is a board-certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, she has over two decades of clinical experience and continues to practice in a nurse practitioner–led free clinic serving populations with limited resources. Dr. Smith serves as Lead AGNP faculty and has extensive experience in graduate nursing education, curriculum development, and DNP project mentorship, with a focus on quality improvement, interprofessional education, and innovative teaching strategies. She has led multiple funded initiatives, including a Duke Endowment–supported project integrating virtual reality into nurse practitioner education, and has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations. Her work centers on improving access to care, advancing geriatric and primary care education, and preparing practice-ready APRNs to meet evolving healthcare needs.
