Biography
Dr. Janelle Wagner is a Research Associate Professor at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in the College of Nursing. She is also a faculty member of the MUSC Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Dr. Wagner received her Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Oklahoma State University. She completed an internship and fellowship in Pediatric Psychology at MUSC. Dr. Wagner joined the faculty at MUSC in 2005 with clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities. He program of research includes behavioral health assessment and intervention in youth with pediatric epilepsy She was funded as a Principal Investigator (PI) twice by the Epilepsy Foundation and by Parents Against Childhood Epilepsy (PACE) and the Henkin Family Foundation and contributed as a Co-Investigator on two epidemiological studies funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In 2007, she received the William R. Turk Research Award in Pediatric Epilepsy.
Since 2009, Dr. Wagner has served as a site PI on a national validation of a pediatric quality of life measure and has been involved with the Managing Epilepsy Well Network (MEW). She currently serves as the site PI for a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded project to examine the efficacy of a stepped-up care adherence intervention for families of youth with epilepsy as well as for the Pediatric Epilepsy Learning Health System (PELHS) project funded by the Pediatric Epilepsy Research Consortium. Dr. Wagner has over 100 peer reviewed publications, holds leadership positions within the national and international epilepsy professional communities, including the American Academy of Pediatrics, Society of Pediatric Psychology, American Academy of Neurology, International League Against Epilepsy, and American Epilepsy Society (AES). She also serves on the Editorial Board for three top tier epilepsy and pediatric psychology journals. In 2019, she was awarded AES Fellow status. Dr. Wagner spends her personal time traveling, watching her boys play soccer, practicing yoga, and participating in a book club.
