Dr. Sompop Bencharit is an accomplished academic and researcher with a distinguished career in prosthodontics and digital dentistry. He currently holds the position of Professor and Assistant Dean for Innovation at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Dental Medicine. Prior to joining MUSC, he served as the Founding Director of Digital Dentistry Technologies and Director of Clinical Research at the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).
Dr. Bencharit received his DDS and Diploma in Prosthodontics from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. He went on to earn his Certificate and Master Degree in Prosthodontics, a PhD in Oral Biology, and a Certificate in Clinical Research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International College of Dentists.
Throughout his career, Dr. Bencharit has made significant contributions to the field of prosthodontics and digital dentistry. He has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles and over 100 published abstracts. His research focuses on the development and application of digital technologies in prosthodontics and oral health. He was recently awarded the 2021 ACP Distinguished Researcher.
Dr. Bencharit is highly regarded in the academic community and serves on several editorial boards and committees. He currently serves as Associate Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics, Academic Editor for PLoS ONE, Scientific Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports, Editorial Board for the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics, and Editorial Contributor for the ADA/Elsevier PracticeUpdate Clinical Dentistry. He also serves as Director for the International Association for Dental Research/American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR/AADOCR)-Prosthodontic Research Group, and as a Research Committee Member for the ACP and American Academy of Osseointegration (AO).
Dr. Bencharit's expertise and contributions have been recognized with numerous awards and honors. He continues to push the boundaries of research and innovation in prosthodontics and digital dentistry, and is dedicated to advancing the field for the benefit of patients and practitioners alike.
