Biography

Dr. Sompop Bencharit is a distinguished academic and researcher with a notable career in prosthodontics and digital dentistry. Currently serving as the Founding Department Chair for Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences, as well as Professor and Assistant Dean for Innovation at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) College of Dental Medicine, he brings a wealth of experience to his role. Prior to joining MUSC, Dr. Bencharit was the Founding Director of Digital Dentistry Technologies and Director of Clinical Research at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Dr. Bencharit earned his DDS and Diploma in Prosthodontics from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand. Furthering his education, he obtained a Certificate and Master's Degree in Prosthodontics, a PhD in Oral Biology, and a Certificate in Clinical Research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC). He is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics and holds Fellowships in the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International College of Dentists.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Bencharit has significantly contributed to the fields of prosthodontics and digital dentistry. With over 90 peer-reviewed articles and more than 100 published abstracts, his research focuses on advancing digital technologies in prosthodontics and oral health. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, he was honored with the 2021 ACP Distinguished Researcher award.

Dr. Bencharit is highly esteemed in the academic community and serves on several editorial boards and committees. His roles include being an Associate Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics, an Academic Editor for PLoS ONE, a Scientific Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports, an Editorial Board member for the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics, and an Editorial Contributor for the ADA/Elsevier PracticeUpdate Clinical Dentistry. Additionally, he currently served as as a Research Committee Member for the ACP and American Academy of Osseointegration (AO).

Dr. Bencharit's expertise and contributions have earned him numerous awards and honors. He remains committed to pushing the boundaries of research and innovation in prosthodontics and digital dentistry, dedicated to advancing the field for the benefit of patients and practitioners alike.
