Biography

Dr. Jason Buckley graduated from Cornell University in 2003 and completed medical school at the University of South Florida College of Medicine in 2008. He went on to complete both his pediatric residency and pediatric cardiology fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina. He pursued additional training in pediatric cardiac intensive care and joined the MUSC faculty as a cardiac intensivist in 2015. Since joining the faculty, Dr. Buckley has led several efforts dedicated to improving the care of children with heart disease including implementation of a cardiac “early warning score” and development of the pediatric cardiac medical emergency team (MET). He facilitates in situ simulated team training (“mock codes”) designed to improve communication and performance during cardiac emergencies such as arrhythmia and cardiac arrest. Dr. Buckley’s academic interests include improving perioperative care, fostering patient/family engagement and collaborating with other institutions to learn from high performers. He is the site clinical champion for MUSC’s participation in the Pediatric Cardiac Critical Care Consortium (PC4) – a multi-institution collaborative that promotes transparent sharing of data, quality improvement and dissemination of best practices. Dr. Buckley recently led a multicenter study supported by PC4 that seeks to improve our understanding and management of chylothorax after pediatric cardiac surgery. He is currently collaborating with researchers at other hospitals to better understand early childhood outcomes after repair of truncus arteriosus.
