Biography

Dr. Michael Casey is a nephrologist who specializes in adult kidney and pancreas transplantation.

 Dr. Casey attended medical school at the University of North Carolina, where he was awarded a student research grant in neurobiology and several other student honors. After medical school, he completed his internal medicine residency at California Pacific Medical Center, San Francisco, and subsequently his nephrology fellowship at Stanford University. After completing his transplant nephrology fellowship at California Pacific Medical Center, Dr. Casey served on the academic faculty at the University of Florida where he also earned a master's degree in Clinical and Translational Science. Dr. Casey was recruited to the Medical University of South Carolina in 2018

Dr. Casey’s interests include novel work in immunosuppression maintenance after transplant failure to improve a patient's chance for re-transplantation. Also, he serves on the OPTN Kidney Paired Donation Workgroup which advises on national kidney paired donation policy. His other interests include transplant immunosuppression and post-transplant outcomes research which he has presented at numerous national and international transplant conferences. Dr. Casey is board-certified in nephrology and internal medicine, and he is a member of the American Society of Transplantation.
