Shannon D’Alton is an Instructor in the Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at The Medical University of South Carolina. Mrs. D’Alton received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and a Master of Science in Nursing at The Medical University of South Carolina. Mrs. D’Alton completed a post-graduate fellowship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, focusing on neuro-cncology and pediatric hospice and palliative care.


Mrs. D’Alton is certified by the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board and a member of the Hospice and Palliative Care Nurses Association. She specializes in the care of children with chronic disease and has expertise in pediatric neurology and palliative care. Her interests include recognition of the physical, social, and psychological burdens associated with chronic illness. Mrs. D’Alton currently practices as a Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with Hands of Hope, an organization specializing in pediatric palliative care. Through practice, she strives to improve health related quality of life as it directly impacts health outcomes.


Mrs. D’Alton joined MUSC as an adjunct faculty in 2011 and transitioned to a full-time faculty role in 2017. Mrs. D’Alton is dedicated to student centered learning through the use of innovative education methods including problem-based learning and simulation. She also remains dedicated to increasing palliative care education in the Undergraduate nursing program.
