Dr. Yostena Farag is a board-eligible ophthalmologist specializing in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus. She is dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized care for children and adults with eye conditions affecting vision, eye alignment, and visual development. She believes that every patient deserves to feel heard, understood, and confident in their treatment plan, and she takes the time to ensure families fully understand each diagnosis and the available treatment options.
Originally from Staten Island, New York, Dr. Farag earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology, graduating summa cum laude from Adelphi University, before receiving her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine- Bradenton. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Brown University Health, where she developed extensive experience in comprehensive ophthalmology, cataract surgery, ocular trauma, and emergency eye care. She is currently pursuing fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the Medical University of South Carolina.
Dr. Farag has a special interest in the medical and surgical treatment of strabismus, amblyopia, pediatric cataracts, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, retinopathy of prematurity screening, and childhood eye diseases. She is passionate about helping children achieve their best possible vision while supporting parents through every step of their child's care. She also enjoys caring for adults with strabismus and double vision, recognizing the significant impact these conditions can have on quality of life.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Farag is committed to medical education, mentorship, and clinical research. She has presented her work at national meetings and is passionate about advancing the field through collaborative research and teaching the next generation of ophthalmologists. She also has a longstanding interest in expanding access to high-quality eye care for underserved communities.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Farag enjoys traveling, spending time outdoors, exploring Charleston, and making memories with her family.
