Biography

Dr. Rochelle Hanson is a Professor at the National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVRTC), Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Department of Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina.  She is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in the treatment of trauma among children, adolescents, and adults. Her area of research focuses on the dissemination and implementation of trauma-focused, evidence-based interventions. She is Associate Director of Research at the NCVRTC and Co-Director of Research for the Charleston Psychology Internship Consortium. She is also serving as Director of the Training and Education Division of the National Mass Violence Center (NMVC), funded by the Office for Victims of Crime and Department of Justice and as Co-Director for the Pediatric Collaborative Care Program, which provides behavioral health services to children seen in pediatric primary care. She has served in leadership roles on numerous projects, with much of her work focused on understanding and responding to victims of traumatic events. Her area of research focuses on the dissemination and implementation of trauma-focused, evidence-based interventions. She is currently serving as the Director of the Dissemination and Implementation Core for Building Resilience through Innovative Interventions to promote Growth & Health after Trauma, a recently funded NIH Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE). She is also Associate Director for the Dissemination and implementation (D/I) Science Collaborative (DISC), supported by the South Carolina Clinical and Translational Science Institute (NIH UL1 TR001450). She is Co-Director for Project BEST, a statewide initiative funded by the Duke Endowment since 2007, whose mission is to increase access to trauma-focused evidence-based services across the state, and Director of a Category II Training & Technical Assistance Center, EQUIPTT, that is part of the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Dr. Hanson is a certified national trainer, provider, and clinical supervisor in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), an empirically supported mental health intervention for youth and families impacted by trauma exposure. Over the course of her career, she has been dedicated to mentorship of early career faculty, psychology interns, and postdoctoral fellows, many of whom have gone on to academic careers, including active engagement in extramurally funded research (e.g., NIH, NIDA, NICHD).
