Biography

Dr. Nietert earned his BS in Mathematics at Duke University, and his PhD in Biometry and Epidemiology at MUSC prior to his faculty appointment in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Dr. Nietert is an applied biostatistician with 20+ years of experience collaborating on various clinical, translational, and basic science research teams. He has directed the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) Program within the South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research Center since its inception and currently also serves on the BERD core for the Delaware Clinical and Translational Research program. He has reviewed for several study sections at NIH and AHRQ.

He has enjoyed leading methodologic cores in rheumatic diseases and has a number of publications involving systemic sclerosis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Dr. Nietert recently served as the Interim Chair of the Department of Public Health Sciences and is currently the Executive Vice Chair of that department. Methodological research interests include hierarchical data analysis, truncated distributions, and randomization in clinical trials.
