Biography
Dr. Caitlin Rancher received her B.S. in Psychology from Occidental College and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Southern Methodist University. She completed her internship at the Charleston Consortium and T32 postdoctoral training at the Medical University of South Carolina's National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC). Dr. Rancher completed a K99 postdoctoral fellowship at the NCVC before she joined the faculty. Her research examines the consequences of children's exposure to violence and tests parenting-based interventions for victims of violence and their families. Her K99/R00 grant, funded by the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), involved using mixed-methods research to examine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of the telehealth delivery of the Positive Parenting module in Project Support.
Dr. Rancher's research has also examined predictors of psychological adjustment and resilience following exposure to violence. This work has included research examining child adjustment following intimate partner violence, emotional support from a non-offending caregiver, self-blame appraisals following child sexual abuse, and the effects of intimate partner violence on supportive parenting.
Recent collaborations have also begun to explore the ripple effects on the mental health and resilience of communities that have experienced mass violence incidents.
