Dr. Saraiya is a licensed clinical psychologist and Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at MUSC. She is director of the PATH lab at https://www.the-path-lab.org/
Broadly, her program of research aims to treat underlying trauma, traumatic stress, and PTSD co-occurring with substance use. Across this work, she focuses on health disparities and ongoing inequities based on individual and collective identity, culture, race, and context. She uses several methodologies to approach her work, including clinical trials, mixed methods, technology platforms, and dissemination and implementation trials. She has been funded by several NIH awards, most recently a NIDA K23 focused on the development of an integrated psychotherapy treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder and PTSD. In addition, she is funded by a NIDA R61/R33 to develop a digital toolkit to screen, assess, and appropriately refer for intimate partner violence across opioid treatment programs in South Carolina.
Dr. Saraiya received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University in New York City. She completed her clinical psychology internship and NIDA-T32 postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was previously a faculty member at the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
