Biography

Dr. Saraiya is a licensed clinical psychologist and Research Assistant Professor. Her research focuses on the development and adaptation of integrated psychotherapy treatments for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and co-occurring substance use disorders (SUD) to historically marginalized populations, such as women, racial and ethnic minorities, and individuals with complex, clinical presentations. Her current work is supported by the Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women’s Health (BIRCWH) K12 grant where she is examining how to modify an integrated treatment for PTSD and co-occurring SUD to the women with PTSD and opioid use disorder. In addition to this work, Dr. Saraiya collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to study how technological adjuncts augment PTSD and SUD treatment and the impact of racial trauma on PTSD and SUD symptom presentations and treatment needs. Dr. Saraiya is devoted to the incorporation of individual identity into the design and implementation of treatments for PTSD and SUD. She immensely enjoys the opportunity to work with patients as a study therapist on clinical trials and welcomes both new patients and trainees to clinical research.

Dr. Saraiya received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida and her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University. While in graduate school, she was a NIDA-funded predoctoral R25 scholar in Translational Research in Addictions for Racial/Ethnic Minorities at the City College of New York and Columbia University Medical Center. She completed her clinical psychology internship and NIDA-T32 funded postdoctoral fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina.
