Biography
Dr. Alyssa Schlenz is an assistant professor and licensed clinical psychologist in the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She obtained her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Colorado and completed her doctoral training through the Clinical-Community Psychology program at the University of South Carolina. Dr. Schlenz completed her predoctoral clinical internship through the Charleston Consortium and her postdoctoral fellowship in Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics at MUSC.
Dr. Schlenz's research and clinical interests are focused on pediatric chronic health conditions, particularly sickle cell disease. Her clinical work includes developmental-behavioral screening and assessment for children with sickle cell disease and other complex medical and behavioral conditions as well as psychosocial consultation with children and families. Her research interests are focused on developmental and biopsychosocial aspects of pediatric sickle cell disease and integrated medical and behavioral interventions. Dr. Schlenz has been previously funded through two fellowships (T32, F31) from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and was a South Carolina Leadership in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (SC LEND) fellow during her postdoctoral training.
