Biography

Amy Smith, MSN, RN, CNE is a clinical instructor in the accelerated undergraduate nursing program at the Medical University of South Carolina.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Bradley University, Peoria, IL in 2007 and her Master of Science in Nursing Education from Walden University in 2012.
Mrs. Smith began her nursing career as an oncology nurse at UnityPoint Health Methodist hospital in Illinois.  Since 2012, Mrs. Smith has worked as an assistant professor instructing a variety of courses, both didactic and online, including med/surg, pathopharmacology, health policy, ethics, and health assessment and high-fidelity simulation.  She received certification as a Certified Nurse Educator from the NLN in 2019, and is a member of the National League for Nursing, SCNESA, and Sigma Theta Tau Phi Phi chapter.  In 2019, she developed a rural health travel course to Cherokee, NC, where nursing students were able to learn about the health disparities and barriers to health care access in this rural area.  She is the most recent recipient of the 2020-2021 Maralynne D. Mitcham Interprofessional Fellowship award.
Mrs. Smith’s current research interests are palliative care, management of depression in oncology patients, utilization of technological resources in the classroom, high fidelity simulation and classroom assessment techniques.  She is enrolled in the Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner, DNP program at MUSC CON, with a project focus on palliative care.
