Biography

Tammy Thompson is a licensed design professional with over 20 years of experience in the design of health care spaces, products, services and operational programs. She is the president and founder of the Institute for Patient-Centered Design (IPCD), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the environment of care for patients, families and staff. Thompson develops and delivers professional education to health care stakeholders and consultants through interactive workshops held annually. As a former professor of architecture, she continues to provide guidance and mentoring to students through the IPCD’s Patient-Centered Design Student Alliance.

Thompson’s work has been published in Healthcare Design Magazine, American Institute of Architects Academy Journal and Health Environments Research and Design Journal. She has also contributed to the third edition of the Joint Commission’s Planning, Design, and Construction of Health Care Facilities book, published in August 2015, and Nurses as Leaders in Health Care Design, published in October 2015. Thompson is currently engaged in design research and she teaches health design courses for the Office of Interprofessional Initiatives.  She also teaches in the College of Medicine's Health Humanities track.
