Biography

Dr. Ali Ziada is a pediatric urological surgeon who serves as director of pediatric urology at Shawn Jenkins MUSC Children’s Hospital. He provides care for abnormalities of the urinary tract and genitalia in patients ranging in age from infants to adolescents and young adults. These abnormalities include a wide range of conditions, including hypospadias, undescended testicles, hydronephrosis (obstruction of urine flow), urination problems related to spina bifida with special interest in cases requiring complex reconstruction.

Ziada earned his medical degree and did residency training in his native country Egypt. He was then certified by the European Board of Urology. He is double fellowship trained in Urologic Oncology at The University of Colorado (1999) and Pediatric Urology fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern Dallas Children’s Hospital (2007).

Ziada served on faculty and as Chief of Pediatric Urology at University of Kentucky (2010-2021) then at Pennsylvania State University in Hershey PA (2021-2024) before joining the Medical University of South Carolina.

Ziada is a member of the American Urological Association, Societies for Pediatric Urology, Society for Fetal Urology and the European Society of Pediatric Urology. He serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Urology, Urology (Gold Journal), and the Journal of Pediatric Urology. He enjoys teaching the younger generations of urologists. 

Ziada is Professor and Director of Pediatric Urology with a focus on congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract as well as the reconstruction of patients with Spina Bifida. My research background demonstrates work in pediatric and reconstructive urology. In addition to my current pediatric urology specialization, I am fellowship trained in urologic oncology with research in areas of renal and prostate cancer treatment. I am an active member of both the American Urological Association as well as the European Society of Pediatric Urology.  I also serve as a peer reviewer for the Journal of Urology, Urology (Gold Journal), and the Journal of Pediatric Urology.
