Angela Ciuca, Ph.D., DNAP, CRNA, is an assistant professor and director of the Division of Anesthesia for Nurses in the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She completed her Master of Nurse Anesthesia at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2012, Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) at Missouri State University in 2018, and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Science at East Carolina University in 2023. For over a decade, Dr. Ciuca has been involved in educating student registered nurse anesthetists in clinical and didactic settings across entry-level professional (Master of Science in Nurse Anesthesia), post-professional (post-master's DNAP), and doctoral (post-baccalaureate DNAP) levels.
Dr. Ciuca's teaching expertise lies in numerous areas of nurse anesthesiology, including anesthesia principles, pharmacology, clinical decision-making, and care across the spectrum of ages. She mentors entry-level and post-professional doctoral students for their doctoral seminar experiential projects. She engages in weekly faculty practice in various anesthetizing locations and case types. She has over ten years of experience in nurse anesthesia practice and nearly 20 years of experience as a registered nurse.
As a nurse scientist, Dr. Ciuca has developed a research track utilizing novel renal biomarkers for early assessment of acute kidney injury in surgical patients. Along with studying these biomarkers, she continues to investigate renal protective strategies related to nurse anesthesiology and systems biology.
Dr. Ciuca was a South Carolina Palmetto Gold Recipient in 2018. She was inducted into the Sigma International Honor Society of Nursing's Beta Nu Chapter in 2020. She was selected as one of three East Carolina University College of Nursing Rising Research Stars in 2021 and presented her research at an international conference. She just completed service to the South Carolina Association of Nurse Anesthesiology board of directors as a Trustee (2023-2025).
