Biography
Catherine O. Durham, DNP, FNP, FAAN, FAANP, a highly accomplished healthcare professional, serves as the dean and professor of the College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). With 28 years of experience as a nurse and family nurse practitioner (FNP), including 27 years in the United States Navy, she has garnered recognition for her exceptional leadership, receiving awards such as the Navy's Rising Star and Excellence in Nursing, Meritorious Service Medals and Teaching Excellence Awards. Her extensive military career includes coordinating the deployment of Navy healthcare professionals to civilian hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic, as the first U.S. military healthcare providers to serve in U.S. hospitals during an integrated emergency response.
Since 2012, Dr. Durham has expanded programs, secured over $2 million in external funding, and notable ranking for Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs in MUSC’s College of Nursing. She is also active in clinical practice, running a clinic for uninsured individuals, and holds leadership roles on various committees and boards, contributing significantly to healthcare advancement in South Carolina. Her commitment to education and healthcare excellence earned her induction as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN) in 2021 and Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (FAANP) in 2026.
