Biography
Madelene C. Lewis, M.D., is a professor in the Department of Radiology & Radiological Science, specializing in breast imaging in the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Dr. Lewis is also the chief of MUSC Health Radiology Integrated Center of Clinical Excellence (ICCE) and the vice chair of Clinical Operations. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at East Carolina University, where she graduated summa cum laude. She completed medical school at the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina. Following medical school, Dr. Lewis completed a transitional year family medicine internship at Trident Medical Center in Charleston, SC. Dr. Lewis completed a diagnostic radiology residency and was chief resident at MUSC. Dr. Lewis then completed a fellowship in women's imaging at MUSC. She is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology (ABR).
Dr. Lewis is involved in many state and national organizations. Currently, she has served as the chair of the Breast Certifying Exam Committee for the ABR, and she serves on several committees in international, national, state, and local societies. Dr. Lewis also serves as the Hollings Cancer Center Cancer Liaison Physician (CLP), and she serves on several university, college, and department committees. She serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Roentgenology, Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, and Academic Radiology and has published many articles. She has presented abstracts at national meetings, including the Radiological Society of North America, American Roentgen Ray Society, and Association of University Radiologists. Her research interests include community outreach for breast cancer screening, emerging breast imaging techniques, and ultrasound.
