Biography

 John W. McGillicuddy, M.D. received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. He continued his education at the University of Michigan where he received his medical degree, graduating cum laude. Upon graduation, he completed a general surgery residency, a critical care fellowship, and an ECMO fellowship at the University of Michigan.

 He then completed a fellowship in abdominal transplantation at MUSC in 2007 and, subsequently, joined the MUSC faculty as Assistant Professor. His clinical interests include liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, as well as liver resection.

 Dr. McGillicuddy’s research interests include the use of mobile technology (mHealth) to communicate with patients in a meaningful way that fosters their own sense of responsibility and well-being while concomitantly improving their medical management with the aim of improving graft and patient longevity and quality of life.

 He was recently awarded an NIH R01 to pursue the development, evaluation, and dissemination of efficacious patient-directed self- management programs.

 He currently serves as the Program Director for the Transplant Fellowship.
