Dr. Nicole Courtois McCoy is an Associate Professor of Anesthesia and Perioperative Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she specializes in pediatric anesthesiology. She completed pediatric residency and chief residency at Carolinas Medical Center, followed by anesthesiology residency and chief residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology at the Mayo Clinic/Wolfson Children’s Hospital.
Dr. McCoy’s clinical and academic interests include pediatric liver and kidney transplantation, pediatric burn care, perioperative protocols for vulnerable pediatric populations, and innovative regional anesthesia techniques—particularly for bone marrow donors. She serves as Director of Pediatric Solid Organ Transplant Anesthesia and leads multiple departmental initiatives to improve perioperative safety, efficiency, and patient outcomes. As the Director of Resident Research, she oversees research engagement within the residency program and works to strengthen scholarly activity, mentorship, and research productivity among trainees. She is also deeply committed to medical education, serving as a Careers in Medicine specialty advisor and mentoring numerous students, residents, and fellows.
An active contributor to national organizations, Dr. McCoy holds leadership roles within the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia’s Women’s Empowerment and Leadership Initiative (WELI) and is widely published in pediatric anesthesiology, transplantation, and quality improvement. Her work has been featured in national media, and she is a frequent invited speaker on topics related to pediatric anesthesia, leadership, and perioperative care.
