Jason G. Newman, M.D., FACS received his medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University Medical School in 1997 and completed residencies in Otolaryngology at Manhattan Eye, Ear & Throat Hospital, New York, NY (1998-1999), and New York Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (1999-2002). Following residency, Dr. Newman completed his fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery/Oncology and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine in 2005. After fellowship, Dr. Newman remained on faculty at Penn, where he was a Professor of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Director of the Cancer Service Line at Pennsylvania Hospital, Director of Head and Neck Surgery, and Co-Director of the Cranial Base Center. In 2022, Dr. Newman joined the Medical University of South Carolina, where he holds the Wendy and Keith Wellin Endowed Chair in Head and Neck Surgery, serves as Professor and Director of the Division of Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, and is Chief of the Cancer Service Line, leading the Cancer Integrated Center of Clinical Excellence (ICCE) at Hollings.
Dr. Newman is board certified in Otorhinolaryngology and holds membership in the American Academy of Otolaryngology and the American Head and Neck Society. His areas of expertise include head and neck mucosal and cutaneous cancer surgery, robotic surgery, and anterior cranial base surgery, with a special interest in minimally invasive approaches. Dr. Newman is also actively involved in research focused on head and neck cancer clinical trials and genetic signatures for head and neck cancer, and he leads a research program in molecular imaging and precision surgery, including the clinical evaluation of intraoperative fluorescence-guided techniques to improve real-time tumor visualization and surgical margin assessment.
At MUSC, Dr. Newman leads the Division of Head and Neck Oncologic Surgery, overseeing its clinical, academic, and research mission and directing the Head and Neck Oncologic and Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship. As Chief of the Cancer Service Line and ICCE Chief at Hollings, he sets clinical strategy and drives program growth across MUSC's statewide cancer network, extending the disease-based model into a coordinated, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care delivery.
