Dr. Leopoldo V. Rodriguez, MD, MBA, FASA, SAMBA-F is a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist, who has been in practice for over 25 years. Dr. Rodriguez is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine Consultant at the Medical University of South Carolina, Lancaster Medical Center.
Dr. Rodriguez is a National Leader in the field of Ambulatory Anesthesiology, he is presently a Member of the General Assembly of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery, and a Senior Consultant at Ambulatory Anesthesiology Consultants LLC; he served as President of the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia (SAMBA), 2020-2021; President of the Florida Society of Anesthesiologists, 2021-2022; and Chair of the ASA Committee on Ambulatory Surgical Care, 2020-2023.
Dr Rodriguez was born in Caracas, Venezuela, obtained a B.Sc. at Instituto Escuela in 1985, M.D. at Universidad Central de Venezuela in 1993. Dr. Rodriguez did his Residency in Anesthesiology; Pediatric Sub-specialty track, serving as Chief Resident at Vanderbilt University from July 1996-2000.
He began his Anesthesiology career at Sacred Heart Health System, Pensacola, FL where he quickly rose to Department Vice-Chair. He later joined Sheridan Healthcare as an adult Cardiac Anesthesiologist. Dr. Rodriguez served as Chair of the Ambulatory Anesthesia Quality committee, where he created an Ambulatory Anesthesiology Quality Improvement group, a system with quality metrics and performance improvement though review of Evidence Based Medicine; he proctored multiple Anesthesiologists in Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia. Dr. Rodriguez promoted to Assistant National Medical Director, Ambulatory Anesthesiology for AmSurg in 2017.
He obtained his M.B.A. at the University of Massachusetts, Isenberg School of Business and was inducted to the Phi-Kappa-Phi Honor Society 2020 for his high academic achievements.
Dr. Rodriguez has served as Medical Director and Chief of Anesthesiology in Hospitals and Ambulatory Surgery Centers in Broomfield, Colorado and Aventura, Florida. Dr. Rodriguez was a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Quality Management and Department Administration (QMDA); and Committee on Performance and Outcome Measures. Before joining MUSC, Dr. Rodriguez has served as a Volunteer Clinical Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and NOVA University in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
