Biography
Dr. Semenikhina's research investigates the cellular and molecular mechanisms of glomerular injury, with a particular focus on redox and nitrosative signaling in renal cells. Her work examines nicotine-mediated signaling in podocyte pathophysiology and the interplay between multiorgan metabolomic networks and redox signaling in renovascular disease, as well as the sex-specific metabolic and transcriptomic signatures that shape kidney disease progression.
Dr. Semenikhina has extensive expertise in renal physiology, cellular biophysics, live-cell imaging, and metabolomics. She earned Ph.D. in biology and biophysics at the Bogomoletz Institute of Physiology in Kyiv, Ukraine. Following the completion of graduate training she pursued postdoctoral fellowship in renal physiology at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Semenikhina continues her career at the Division of Nephrology at the Medical University of South Carolina where she was promoted to Instructor in 2025. She also serves as Project Coordinator of the Kidney Translational Research Center at MUSC.
