Jerry E. Squires, M.D., Ph.D., is the professor and interim chair of the Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine in the College of Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). He also serves as the medical director of Transfusion Medicine within the department, where his academic focus includes transfusion medicine and coagulation.
Dr. Squires holds both a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from West Virginia University School of Medicine and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biology from Yale University. He completed residency training in anatomic and clinical pathology and fellowship training in transfusion medicine at the University of Virginia and is board certified in pathology.
Over more than three decades of clinical and academic work, Dr. Squires has focused on blood banking, transfusion safety, and coagulation, and he has contributed to research on topics such as transfusion-transmitted infections and blood management. His career also includes operational leadership roles in hospital blood banks and regional transfusion services.
