Biography

Dr. Jackson H. Voss, M.D., is an ophthalmologist who will be joining the Medical University of South Carolina's Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, South Carolina as a fellow in cornea, external disease, and refractive surgery.

Dr. Voss earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology, with a minor in Business, from the University of Missouri, where he graduated from the Honors College. He then went on to earn his medical degree from the University of Missouri School of Medicine. During medical school, he was selected for the Bryant Scholars Program, a competitive track that prepared students from rural backgrounds for careers in medicine, including completing clinical rotations at rural health sites throughout Missouri.

After medical school, Dr. Voss completed a preliminary year in internal medicine followed by a residency in ophthalmology, both at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City. During his residency, he took on leadership roles including serving as Resident WetLab Coordinator, helping build surgical training programs for residents, and as an elected member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee. He also represented the American Academy of Ophthalmology as a Resident Advocate at a national advocacy day in Washington, D.C., meeting with lawmakers on issues affecting patients and physicians.

Dr. Voss has a strong interest in serving communities with limited access to eye care. He has volunteered at free eye clinics through the JayDoc program and the Kansas City Lions Club, providing exams and treatment to patients who are uninsured or underinsured. He has also participated in the University of Kansas Global Ophthalmology Track and has conducted research on the global shortage of donor corneas and ways to improve eye banking worldwide.  His clinical interests include complex corneal conditions, refractive surgery, and caring for patients who need highly specialized eye care, whether close to home or through international outreach. Dr. Voss is committed to combining surgical skill with compassionate, patient-centered care for every person he treats.
