Biography
Chronic Pancreatitis (CP) is persistent inflammation of the pancreas that impacts its structure and function. Pain is the major characteristic of patients with chronic pancreatitis, and therapies currently only focus on pain relief. Current pain management using pharmacological approaches is insufficient, with about 40 to 75% of patients requiring further surgery. There is a therefore a significant need for more effective and safer therapeutic options. One major focus of the Wang lab is the development of novel regimens for the treatment of chronic pancreatitis. Dr. Wang’s group executes this translational research using mouse models of chronic pancreatitis, and conducts clinical trials to improve efficacy of treatment.
