Biography

Dr. Janina Wilmskoetter is an ASHA-certified speech-language pathologist who received her graduate degree in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) from the University of Bielefeld in Germany, and her PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences from the Medical University of South Carolina. Janina is an Assistant Professor in the College of Health Professions at the Medical University of South Carolina. She teaches classes on "Adult Swallowing" and "Neurogenic Language" in the graduate SLP program, works as an SLP in the inpatient acute hospital setting, and conducts research in post-stroke dysphagia and aphasia. With her research Janina seeks to contribute to our understanding of brain structural correlates of recovery from dysphagia and aphasia to support the development of individualized treatment approaches. She is passionate about the direct integration of clinical practice into teaching and research - and vice versa - to ultimately benefit individuals with swallowing and/or language impairments.
