Biography
Dr. Tilstra-Ferrell received her B.S. in Psychology at Kent State University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, with a dual concentration in clinical-health and clinical-community psychology, from Bowling Green State University. She completed her predoctoral internship at the Charleston Consortium and her postdoctoral training at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center (NCVC). She is currently a Research Assistant Professor at MUSC housed in the NCVC.
Dr. Tilstra-Ferrell's research and clinical interests, broadly, are focused on increasing access to evidence based services for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and co-occurring conditions (e.g., disordered eating, substance use) across the lifespan, particularly among survivors of interpersonal violence. Specifically, her research interests include (1) efficient, integrated approaches to treating PTSD and co-occurring conditions, (2) testing and implementing accessible interventions for traumatic stress outside of trauma-focused specialty clinics in settings where survivors often first seek help (e.g., rape advocacy centers, primary care, eating disorder treatment), and (3) systems-oriented, community engaged approaches that aim to increase supportive responses to disclosure and utilization of healthcare and other vital services following sexual assault. Potential trainees are encouraged to review her publications at the link below the photo on this page.
