Biography
Dr. Sara Witcraft is an Assistant Professor and Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the Women’s Reproductive Behavioral Health Division at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She received her B.A. in psychology from the University of Miami and her M.A. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Mississippi. She completed her predoctoral internship and postdoctoral fellowship at MUSC. She is a previous recipient of a National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) K12 Career Development Award and is PI of an active NIDA/NIH Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) Initiative K23 Career Development Award.
Dr. Witcraft’s research focuses on addressing transdiagnostic psychological mechanisms and utilizing innovative digital solutions to improve quality, access, and equity of evidence-based behavioral and pharmacological treatments for individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Her K awards have centered on improving retention in medications for opioid use disorder among pregnant and postpartum persons, and she currently has institutional funding as MPI to pilot test an innovative screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment digital platform for hospitalized traumatic injury patients at risk for substance misuse and use disorder.
