Biography

Dr. A. Sharee Wright is a Clinical Associate Professor of Surgery and Senior Associate Dean for Pathways in the College of Medicine PRIME Division. She is originally from Bonneau, South Carolina, and completed her undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences at North Carolina State University. She earned her Doctor of Medicine degree from MUSC, where she went on to become the first African American woman to complete a general surgery residency. She then completed fellowship training in vascular surgery at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

After several years in private practice, Dr. Wright returned to MUSC in 2021 to join the Division of Vascular Surgery. She also serves as Co-Medical Director of the MUSC Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen Center and as Vice Chair of Disparities Education and Cultural Dexterity for the Department of Surgery. Her clinical interests include peripheral artery disease, wound care, and endovascular intervention for limb preservation, and her academic work focuses on expanding representation in surgical education and patient care. She is an active member of multiple national surgical societies and is passionate about mentorship, health equity, and expanding opportunities for under resourced students pursuing medical careers. She enjoys traveling and humorously notes that growing up in one of South Carolina’s most well-known speed traps “didn’t stop her from going full speed” toward her goals.
