Biography
Dr. Emily Johnson, PhD is a tenured Professor in the College of Nursing at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Furman University, a Master in Health Administration Degree from MUSC, and a Doctoral Degree in Health and Rehabilitation Science from MUSC.
Within the College of Nursing, Dr. Johnson teaches primarily in the Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, with primary focus on statistics and epidemiology. She also serves as the statistician on all DNP student quality improvement projects.
Dr. Johnson’s research expertise focuses on mixed methods research design in the field of implementation science. She currently serves as a co-investigator in the MUSC Center of Telehealth Excellence, evaluating implementation of telehealth-based interventions to identify facilitators to adoption and long term sustainability. She has presented research findings at national and international conferences and is published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Johnson has served in national research leadership roles, including as a member of the national Society for Implementation Research Collaboration Network of Expertise, and as a selected abstract reviewer for Academy Health Implementation-based conferences.
Prior to joining the College of Nursing, Dr. Johnson served as an administrative resident at MUSC Health, followed by a role as a research analyst in which she participated in health services research in the areas of hospital access, trauma care outcomes, and telemedicine. Dr. Johnson has also taught at the undergraduate and graduate level in the College of Health Professions at MUSC and Health Administration Department at Ohio University. She has teaching experience in the areas of organizational theory, research design and statistics, and epidemiology.
