Biography
Dr. Susan Sonne received her BS in Pharmacy from the Medical College of Virginia, and her Doctorate in Pharmacy from the Medical University of South Carolina, where she is currently an Associate Professor of Psychiatry. After her doctorate, Dr. Sonne completed an ASHP accredited residency in Psychiatric Pharmacy Practice followed by three years of fellowship training in substance abuse research. She has been board certified in psychiatric pharmacy practice since 1996, and has been active in research and teaching at MUSC for the last 24 years. Dr. Sonne’s primary research focus has been the pharmacotherapy of addiction and co-occurring disorders. She has served as the Principal Investigator of a number of federally funded trials for the treatment of substance use disorders, including trials for opioid dependence, stimulant dependence, and cigarette smoking. She is currently Chair of one of the Institutional Review Boards at MUSC and is also the Associate Director of the Regulatory Knowledge and Support Core of MUSC’s South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research Institute.
