Dr. Stacy received his MD from the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri. He completed residency training at Hahnemann (Drexel) University, and a fellowship in Movement Disorders at Baylor College of Medicine. He initially returned the University of Missouri as an assistant professor at the University of Missouri in 1991. He moved to Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona to serve as the Director of the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Research Center in 1996. In 2003 he became the Director of Parkinson Disease and Movement Disorders at Duke University, where he was promoted to Vice Dean for Clinical Research in 2011. In this role, he founded the Duke Office of Clinical Research and oversaw the Institutional Review Board (IRB), Office of Regulatory Affairs, and the Duke Biobank initiative.
Prior to arriving at MUSC, Stacy completed a sabbatical in the Human Motor Control Section at the National Institutes of Health. He also served as Dean of Brody School of Medicine and Vice Chancellor of the Division of Health Sciences at East Carolina University from 2017 – 2021.
Memberships/Affiliations/Committees
Dr. Stacy is a fellow of the Movement Disorders Society, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Neurological Association. He has provided advice and consultation to numerous national and community committees, including WE MOVE, the Parkinson Study Group, the Dystonia Study Group, the National Parkinson Foundation, and the American Academy of Neurology.
Clinical/Research Interests
Dr. Stacy has lectured nationally and internationally on diagnosis and treatment of Parkinson disease and other movement disorders.
Publications
Dr. Stacy has published more than 300 journal articles and book chapters on the topics of clinical and neurobiological aspects, complications, and treatment options in Parkinson Disease; dystonia; Tourette’s syndrome; and movement disorders. He has a strong interest in non-motor symptoms in Movement Disorders and has published extensively on Impulse Control Disorders in Parkinson Disease.
Editorial Positions
Dr. Stacy is a reviewer for many peer-reviewed journals and previously served on the Editorial Board of Journal of Clinical Investigation and the Movement Disorders Society Newsletter: Moving Along. He currently serves on the Editorial Board of Movement Disorders.
