John Bian, PhD, is a tenure-track associate professor at the MUSC College of Nursing. He received his PhD in Health Policy and Management with a concentration in statistical methodology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Bian previously worked at MUSC Division of Internal Medicine, South Carolina College of Pharmacy, the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and the American Cancer Society. He has been with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs since 2007. 
Dr. Bian has hands-on experience in large observational data analysis. In particular, he is interested in determinants of changes in health care delivery systems and the impacts of the changes on quality, outcomes, and equity. One of his statistical expertise is applications of natural experiment for evaluating of large-scale health care interventions (e.g., telehealth program) and health policies (e.g., FDA drug safety regulation). His research, funded by the NCI and VA HSR&D Merit Award, has been published in high-impactful peer-reviewed journals.
