Biography

Dr. Powers is an instructor in the DNP program. She began her healthcare career in the Army in 1993 as a Combat Medic and Licensed Practice Nurse graduating from The Army’s Nursing Program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of New England, ME, and her Master of Science in Nursing from Northeastern University, Boston. She is board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), completed a PMHNP residency at the VA Boston Healthcare System and is a post graduate Doctorate in Nursing Practice at Northeastern University. She actively serves in the Army Reserve as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in a Combat Stress Detachment and has multiple deployments that include support of Operational Iraqi Freedom and a Humanitarian deployment to El Salvador in support of Task Force New Hope. She is a Jonas Scholar, a member of the American Psychiatric Nursing Association, Sigma Theta Tau, and the Army Nurse Corps. 

Dr. Powers’ current research interests include active duty service members mental health, veteran’s mental health, veteran women’s health, integrative mental health care and telemental health care.
